More fungi are on their way. I got some great shots of an Amanita muscaria bloom in early August after a summer rain. The fungi to the left is an ascomycete so named because it forms spores in microscopic sacs called asci. It is probably a member of the Sarcoscyphaceae family or "cup fungi". Click on items in the menu to the left to see more fungi. My mushroom identifications are entirely tentative. As I accumulate more data, I will revise my identifications. Fungi are especially interesting because "molecular evidence indicates that fungi are more closely related to animals than to plants." (Campbell 1999, pg. 492)
